Charter of Road Traffic Victims' Rights

The Charter of Road Traffic Victims' Rights was created in 2021 on the initiative of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE), the Institute of European Traffic Law (IETL) and the Council of Bureaux (COB). It defines standards for European liability and compensation rules and serves as an ethical code of conduct for the handling of national and international claims. The principles set out in the charter are embedded in current Swiss legislation.

Dr. Martin Metzler, co-founder and former President of NBI & NGF and former Vice President of the Institute for European Traffic Law (IETL), was one of the main initiators of the Charter of Road Traffic Victims' Rights. In the following interview, the "father of the idea" of the charter answers the most important questions about the code of conduct.

In order to achieve the goal of a long-term positive impact on victims of road accidents, the Charter must be followed and supported by insurance companies, loss adjusters and COB member countries, and its content and intent must be communicated to the public. NBI & NGF support all aspects of this project.
